Red Window grows writing talent on team

Two new writing specialists are advancing Red Window’s capabilities in storytelling and media relations.

Red Window Communications recently welcomed two new writers to its full-time team in Oxford, Mississippi, strengthening a key area of the company’s services.

Senior Account Manager Tad Wilkes joined the team in August and was followed shortly after by Meg Oakes, who came on as an account coordinator in late October.

“With a diverse range of clients and services at this stage of company growth, strong writing is the fundamental thread that ties everything together,” said Managing Director Kelley Hunsberger. “We strive for clear communication that resonates with the people our clients want to reach.”

Red Window, which will celebrate its fifth anniversary in January, represents clients in a wide range of fields and industries, including healthcare, private equity, nonprofit, law, construction, real estate, accounting and consumer products.

Using visual branding and digital marketing techniques, Red Window crafts communications programs custom-fit for its clients across the Southeast.

Wilkes — with a background in journalism, law and the tech industry — and Oakes — with experience in nonprofit communications — both bring valuable perspectives to Red Window’s team.

As senior account manager, Wilkes works closely with clients to execute their communications programs and ensure alignment with their goals, messaging and budgets. A writer and editor, he also creates content for clients and leads media-relations efforts.

“Having been a journalist, I know that manufactured messages do not resonate. I like to tell stories that promote the interests of our clients authentically,” he said. “We take our clients’ authentic points of difference in their respective markets and develop stories around them.”

Prior to joining Red Window, Wilkes spent three years with CoreLogic | FNC, working with large mortgage lenders using the company's technology platforms. His experience also includes a decade serving as a journalist and editor in the hospitality industry, as well as practicing law in Mississippi and South Carolina.

Oakes brings a background in content marketing and nonprofit communications, along with enthusiasm for using her skills to advance clients’ goals. She joins Red Window from Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona in Tucson, where she served as donor communications manager and development coordinator.

“What I enjoyed so much about working in nonprofit communications was the service I provided to communities and real people, and that lends itself well to broader communications. Coming from the South, it feels particularly exciting to be supporting companies and nonprofits where I grew up,” she said.

Originally from Madison, Miss., Oakes went on to complete undergraduate and graduate degrees in creative writing. She earned a master of fine arts from Chapman University in Orange, Calif., and focuses on applying strong storytelling to client programs.

“Stories have the potential for real impact, and finding the right way to engage with these stories and how to tell them is a great opportunity for clients’ growth,” Oakes said.

Red Window was founded in 2018 by journalist Lucy Schultze, who responded to a local demand for marketing services focused on authentic content creation. Since then, the company’s roots in storytelling have remained a key element of client programs.

“The best writers are also good listeners, which is a hallmark of how we approach client partnerships,” Schultze said. “For us, crafting compelling stories for clients starts with taking the time to understand who they are and focusing our efforts around how we can best advance their goals.”
